The Junior League of Detroit’s 2018 Designers’ Showhouse was the historic Charles T. Fisher Mansion located in the Boston-Edison district of Detroit. Dozens of illustrious designers and landscapers transformed the 16,000-square-foot English Tudor-style home into a stylistic showcase of the latest trends from around the country. Designers who participated in the event brought their own unique perspective on how to preserve the vintage aspects of the home while pushing the boundaries of modern design.

The home was purchased by actor and author Hill Harper and after the event each room needed to be functional and cater to the everyday tasks of real life. Harper’s main architect on the project was Chandra Moore of coG-Studio, and the two worked closely to ensure they could make the home a beautiful retreat for Harper and his family. As Moore puts it, “No matter what era you’re in, you need pieces that create an idea of togetherness.” The result was a family-centered spectacle that’s perfectly poised to capture the hearts of a whole new generation of Midwesterners.

Industrial isn’t typically synonymous with refinement, unless it’s describing Chandra Moore’s exquisite transformation of the first-floor kitchen for the Detroit Designers’ Showhouse. She notes, “Kitchens are more open and airy and light and functional for today’s purposes.” Moore kept original pieces like the stove to infuse authenticity into the space, while new fixtures such as a utility sink stayed within the industrial theme. “We chose the KOHLER® Farmstead™ sink because of the way the lines work in the space—it felt very traditional to match the house.” Different textures of black and white invoke a sleek and inviting color palette at every turn. Moore’s eclectic mix of original pieces and modern accoutrements make it the perfect backdrop for cooking and entertaining. Discover more of the Detroit...

Chandra Moore of coG-Studio doesn’t ascribe to the notion that a children’s bathroom should feel childish. “We still wanted it to feel like a zen space, especially for a little boy,” Moore explains. Therefore, her design is luxurious, elevated and intelligently playful. She adds extra functionality by creating an entire wet room with floor-to-ceiling tiles. Any parent knows to expect the unexpected when it comes to kids, and this tiled space makes it easy to complete any task from showers to baths and everything in between. Ample built-in storage ensures every inch is usable yet sleek. Fine details like the tile patterns and thoughtful details make it a space suited to grow with a child instead of one he’ll quickly outgrow. Discover more of the...

Taking a bold pattern and building a room around it results in a customized and unique space such as this granite-tile master bathroom. Designer Chandra Moore said, “I wanted it to feel open and airy so that when you’re standing in front of it, you can see everything.” With an almost map-like quality, the blues and golds of the granite tile are woven into the floor and the shower walls to create cohesion. The Vibrant® Rose Gold finish makes this space a bold, modern oasis. The bathroom's wood flooring was salvaged from the downstairs kitchen and is a tribute to the deep roots of the home. The indoor-outdoor lifestyle doesn’t often reach the harsher Midwestern climate, which makes Kristen Shellenbarger’s garden bathroom feel all the more special. Shellenbarger transformed an exterior space into a charming bathroom suite inspired by the nature outside its walls. Make no mistake—among the natural elements like greenery and exposed brick, you’ll find modern fixtures like the Veil® toilet that prove innovation doesn’t have to feel stark. A luxury bath amongst the trees, the KOHLER® Veil freestanding bath is ergonomically designed to fit the curves of the body and provide a deeper and more relaxing soak. The Vibrant® Rose Gold finish on the KOHLER Loure® faucets and a tile-accent pepper the room with sleek surprises to complement the natural surroundings. The luxuriously modern appeal of this bathroom...
